Principal's Message:

                    A New Year !

Dear Hawley Parents / Guardians,

Another Year.  Start A New.  A Fresh Start.  To Begin Again.  A New Beginning, Another Try.  A Mulligan ;0)

How exciting the start of school is.  A new teacher.  A new classroom. A new year.  Everyone starts at the same point, with the same opportunities, with the same expectations.  A chance to begin again.  How often do we wish we could do something over?

Students can maintain old friendships and make new ones.  They can read that extra page and write that extra sentence.  This is a time to use more adjectives, learn those math facts, and raise their hand when they think they know the answer (as opposed to when they do know the answer).  Homework can be tried alone, help can be asked for when needed, and assignments turned in without reminding.  This is an opportunity to be organized, help others and be kind.  Maybe smile more and try new things, like an instrument.  Wow, what an opportunity a new year provides.

How can we help as parents?  Tough one.  We are parents after all.  We must protect and help and shelter.  We must also stand back and watch and let our children try, and yes, sometimes fail.  They must, and will, learn from mistakes.  Be there for them.  Walk them through what happened and how they can do it differently/better next time.

Hawley is with you and your child every step of the way.  Trust that we know what we are doing.  Support us in our efforts and in our decisions.  Talk to us, away from the child, if you disagree.  Share your thoughts and listen to ours.  We can work it out.  There is nothing that we take more seriously than the well-being of the children placed in our care.  Their entire well-being; academically, socially, and emotionally.  Together we can bring your child to new heights.

"Isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?"
